ABOUT ROSE

I’m an oil painter, instructor, and lifelong creative.

I work mostly in oil and charcoal, with a focus on portraits, figure work, symbolism, and whatever else is currently pulling at my attention. My work tends to live somewhere between observation and feeling. I care about likeness, structure, color, and form, but I also care about the moment when a painting starts to feel alive.

My teaching style is practical, open, and process-focused. I don’t teach art like there’s one perfect formula you’re supposed to follow. I teach you how to look, simplify what you’re seeing, make decisions, and keep going through the messy middle instead of panicking and overworking everything.

I live between a log cabin on the Oregon coast and a village on a Greek island, and both places show up in my work in different ways. I paint, write, teach online, cook, wander, collect ideas, and keep coming back to the same basic truth: creativity is not a talent or a gift - it’s an ongoing practice that must be cultivated in order to show up.

My classes are for people who want to loosen up, build confidence, trust their eye, and make work that feels more like them.
